A billion dollar yacht: this is what it will look like. The Roman studio Lazzarini Design once again questions nautical standards with the project of a 204 meter long mega-yacht. It will be called "Colossea", it will be equipped with its own airship. A bold project, like the character it was inspired by: the engineer and explorer Umberto Nobile and his expedition to the North Pole. But for now it's just a dream on paper, waiting for a (very rich and) passionate financier...
The latest invention from the Lazzarini studio is called “Colossea”. The new mega-yacht designed by Pierpaolo Lazzarini, a designer from Viterbo known worldwide for his projects on the edge of reality, is only a concept for now. But the new jewel has already been thought out in every detail.
The “Colossea”, destined to "change travel on water forever", as Lazzarini's team explains to Dezeen magazine, even has its own airship: a zeppelin without a rigid internal structure. “The yacht will be a floating docking station for a detachable airship,” explains the design studio.
Inspired by a zeppelin from 100 years ago
The concept pays homage to the Norge, a semi-rigid airship originally known as the N-1. It was built in 1924 by the engineer and explorer Umberto Nobile at the aeronautical construction plant of the Military Engineers in Rome.
On 10 April 1026, the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen chose that airship, defined as "faster than air", as a means to fly over the North Pole for the first time, giving up dog sleds. Nobile himself was at the controls of the N-1.
The airship was powered by three six-cylinder engines and could reach a speed of 113 kilometers per hour.
The “Colossea” zeppelin will have the same dimensions and design as the Norge, but will be built with modern materials and according to the latest aeronautical knowledge.
The yacht's docking station is designed so that the captain can turn electromagnetic locks on and off to keep the zeppelin on the vessel.
24 passengers in the zeppelin, 44 on the yacht
The interior of the zeppelin will be able to accommodate up to 24 passengers and ten crew members, while the ship will be able to accommodate 44 passengers and 20 crew members.
“Colossea”, according to Lazzarini's plans, will have 22 guest suites and several indoor and outdoor swimming pools. In addition to the docking station for the zeppelin, there is also a landing platform for helicopters.
Now, to go from renderings to waves, you need around 1 billion dollars, or 915 million euros, very little for the tycoon or the emir of the moment compared to the dream yacht.
