Both yacht and submarine! Incredible but true!

One of the most interesting novelties presented at the Monaco Yacht Show

Here is one of the most interesting novelties of the Monaco Yacht Show, the great yachting show held in the Principality of Monaco from 28 September to 2 October in the splendid setting of Port Hercules. We are talking about the Nautilus project, a yacht-submarine designed by the Dutch of U-Boat Worx, a company that has been dedicating itself to the construction of underwater naval vessels for some time, but so far only experimenting with small models, suitable for leisure and exploration of the seabed. not excessively deep. In this case it is instead a real yacht of 37.5 meters capable of transforming itself into a submarine capable of diving up to 200 meters below sea level if necessary.

Powered by a diesel-electric hybrid system, according to its designers, the Nautilus could navigate the surface at a speed of 9 knots, while submerged at 4 knots. At cruising speed, the project foresees a stay underwater of six hours. When stopped in port, the Nautilus can be moored at any quay, taking into account that the draft is 6.5 meters.

Given the ability to navigate both on the surface and underwater, the layout of this highly original superyacht is extraordinarily original, and the ability to adapt to the needs of underwater navigation is unique. Through a pressure-proof hydraulic system it is possible to make everything dedicated to outdoor life “disappear”, starting with the swimming pool and sundecks.

The equipment is a true superyacht: bar, swimming pool, dining room, four luxurious guest cabins and an equally luxurious owner's cabin, kitchen and bathroom. Six berths are available in a separate area for the crew. That said, the interiors are fully customizable at the customer's request. Once down, large portholes ensure a total view of the surroundings and the seabed, thanks also to an adequate supply of lights.

The submarine yacht will cost no less than 25 million euros, and will therefore be a product intended for a very limited elite. But Beat Houtman, president and founder of U-Boat Workx, is optimistic. "Our proposal for a yacht capable of diving up to 200 meters deep will make those planning the purchase of a traditional yacht think", he said, adding that "with the Nautilus the yachting market will never be the same" .

A decidedly futuristic vision of things, however supported by the success of the smallest submarines produced so far, mainly intended for tourist trips for the exploration of the seabed. Like the two-seater Nemo, on sale since 2020, when it dominated the Red Dot Award as Best of Best, the best of the best. Some owners use it as a tender intended for diving up to 100 meters deep. And, if you want, you can also take it behind a car, as it is trailerable.
