New electric "Hyper-Jet" promises to be the fastest jet ski in the world
The Supermarine MM01 , which looks like a cross between an amphibious vehicle imagined for Star Wars and a conventional watercraft, will be built in France by Bouvet Frères Marine in a limited edition series of 30-15 with a mother-of-pearl shade exterior and 15 in black. The company calls it the world's first "hyper-jet". Expected to hit the market in early 2024, the MM01 will be powered by an electric motor generating 220kW (or 300hp) to give it a top speed of 75mph.
The brothers Germain and Léopold Bouvet collaborated in the design of automobiles and other land vehicles and, during the development of their first craft, consulted with aerospace engineers to create a precise aeronautical design. But they also used old-school techniques: the first MM01 model was molded from a large block of clay to achieve precise curves and lines.
The final hand-built exterior will be made with a carbon-Kevlar layup, a strong and stiff material that Germain says is designed like a "spine" to which the other components are "grafted."
With its high speed, the design includes a streamlined front end that sweeps back to wrap around the driver, rather than leaving the legs and torso exposed to waves and spray.
But there are also touches of luxury . The glovebox is covered in leather and under the seat there is a champagne holder to enjoy some bubbly after landing on that deserted tropical island.
