The yacht that recharges fuel cells with sea water

Aquon One

Yacht dealer MYSEA recently opened orders for AQUON One, a luxury boat that offers (potentially) unlimited range. The boat is equipped with a revolutionary system capable of using sea water for the production of hydrogen to power the two electric motors.
It is essentially a yacht similar to others we have already talked about, which uses a hybrid solar and hydrogen power supply. It has 64 square meters of solar panels that recharge the lithium-ion battery modules for short-term energy storage.

To support the solar system, as anticipated, there is the hydrogen system that uses fuel cells. Naturally, it is possible to refuel at the distributors, but if these are missing, it is possible to use the sea surface to produce hydrogen independently.
The technology adopted by the engineers makes it possible to collect desalinated water directly from the sea. This is then converted into gaseous hydrogen which is compressed to 300 bar and stored in the carbon tanks installed on board. At this point, the fuel cells will convert the hydrogen into energy whenever needed to power the engines.

The most interesting aspect of this system is that for the conversion of water into pure hydrogen it uses exclusively solar energy. Once the battery units are recharged, the excess energy collected with the solar panels is used for this purpose providing a potentially unlimited range cruising at 4-6 knots (provided there is sufficient sunlight).
The result, therefore, is a boat capable of guaranteeing several days of navigation without the need to refuel, with emissions that are reduced to simple water and thermal heat. The latter is also used to heat the cabins and supply hot water to the passengers.
